Kate Jirelle

Raised in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, Kate Jirelle is an actor, writer and creator currently based in Western Sydney.
As a performer Kate has long held a passion for making theatre accessible to regional audiences. This has led to her touring across regional NSW with several theatre companies including Blue Whale Theatre and Dark Stories Interactive Theatre. Other notable theatre credits include ‘Tovarich’, ‘Earth and Sky’ and ‘Things I Know To Be True’. She has also appeared on screen in the feature film, ‘Love You Like That’ and the web series ‘Axmo Deus’.
As a writer and creator, Kate endeavours to celebrate the extraordinary moments within ordinary lives and to elevate unheard voices and perspectives. In 2022, her short film script, ‘Broken’ won ‘Best Short Screenplay’ in the Sydney Women’s International Film Festival and placed as a Finalist in the Santa Barbara International Screenplay Awards, and Semi-finalist in the Australia Independent Film Festival. In the same year, her short play ‘To Those I Left Behind’, based on Kate’s own struggles and triumphs as a teacher in the Australian education system was awarded ‘Best Production’ at Short+Sweet Sydney. Most recently, her immersive one-act play 'The Secrets of Carmichael Manor', was performed across National Trust properties in both Western Sydney and Maitland, featuring casts made up of artists who were local to both locations.
